Course Rationale: The study of American History encourages the understanding of the past and the recognition of its contribution to the present and the future. Students will develop the ability to analyze, synthesize and think critically about the themes and events discovered. Successful completion of this year-long course is required for graduation from high school in the state of Missouri.
Materials:
The following items are needed EVERYDAY for success:
A. Composition Notebook
B. Folder for class work
C. Something to write with
D. Textbook- The American Vision-Modern Times (2008)
E. Flash drive
F. Recommended Reading- Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (1971) by Dee Brown, How the Other Half Lives (1890) by Jacob Riis, The Jungle (1906) by Upton Sinclair.
Grading Procedure:
Each student’s grade will be determined by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible. A student’s grade will consist of their grades from exams, homework, quizzes, performance events, and other significant assignments. A final exam will also be given at the end of each semester that will comprise of twenty percent of a student’s semester grade. The grading scale is as follows:

Classroom Rules:
Class Expectations
- Respect everyone’s right to learn
- Ask for help when you need it. I am available to students after school by appointment.
- Raise your hands to be acknowledged; don’t interrupt others who are speaking.
- No obscene language, fighting, harassment, or other improper conduct.
- Be in your seat when the bell rings at the start and the end of each class.
- No grooming during class period
- Students must sign internet policy
- No eating in class.
- No cell phones
Classroom Academic Effort:
LATE WORK— Assignments: Assignments will be posted on the chalkboard daily and are due when specified. Projects that are turned in late without prior approval due to illness or an emergency will have 1 full letter grade deducted for each day late (no credit after one month).
MAKE-UP WORK AND TESTS—Anytime you are gone with an EXCUSED ABSENCE you have one month to submit the material from when you return from your absence. If you don’t make up the work or take the test within that time period, you will receive a zero.
